Finding the right funding is one of the hardest calls a founder makes. Startup or established business, it’s the same question: where does the money come from, and what does it cost you?
We hosted this i4Series panel at Flywheel to get real answers from people who make those decisions.
The panel
- Tony Nolte (moderator), attorney at Kim, Lahey & Killough and adjunct professor of business law and entrepreneurship at Furman. He’s served as General Counsel and CFO for multiple ventures.
- Dave Parker, 6x founder and CEO of SmartKoz. He’s raised $15M for companies he founded and now helps founders with crowdfunding and equity strategy through platforms like StartEngine.
- Matt Bell, Executive Director of SC Launch Inc., the investment arm of SCRA that backs high-potential South Carolina startups.
- William Taylor, an active Greenville angel investor with Launchpad GVL and Deal Flow Xchange.
What we covered
- Traditional financing, like SBA loans and lines of credit
- How angel investors and VCs evaluate a deal
- State programs, grants and non-dilutive funding in South Carolina
- Lessons from Greenville founders who’ve raised
[JOSH: two or three things the panel actually said that stuck with you]
Then we opened it up for networking with local founders, investors and operators.
Thanks to Tony, Dave, Matt and William for being so open with the room.
